DAILY.
I had always been a fan of these social networking sites but there are some instances when I realized, it’s not something worth spending all your leisure time with.
I have created a lot of social networking accounts before and have deleted mostly everything. Left nothing but my facebook account. Privacy in these sites are not always considered an important thing, People tend to feast on your photos set to public. I always thought that setting your profile to private would entail extreme privacy on my personal life, and yet, I was not able to realize that even if I don’t accept friend requests from people I do not really know, set my photos as private, it would hinder these strangers from knowing how my life is. And of course, since you do not know how these friends value privacy, and we are not at all aware how they handle their own accounts, these strangers can still get the chance to have a glimpse on your photos, posts and even blogs. Left click is just a blink away.
When I found out that these computer whiz were able to create a program that can give you the power to view private photos and accounts, I started dreaming of becoming one of them. Maybe I should have taken computer courses rather than taking hospitality and communication courses.
What happened to our most treasured privacy? Do we still value secrecy?
When these networking sites started to evolve, I was one of those first people who happened to have an account. Not that I am old, it’s just that, people during those times are already much into technology. Using palm instead of 6150 that is.
Honestly, it got me excited. Finally, someone was able to think of a way on how long lost friends can get in touch once again. I was able to find my childhood friends, my exes and my relatives from all over the world. But hey, they are not the only people who are magnetized by the charms of the photos you posted on your profile. These beautiful photos attract strangers as well. This is when online hooking has begun.
I myself am not a fan of these social networking sites but I wanted to be in touch with my real friends. I am proud to say, my social life is not "googable", only my professional life. And whether you like it or not, there is a certain part of you that would say "sign up and get connected".
